The term internet marketing has been used countless of times these days. Some used it without a thought while others are aware of its meaning. In fact, you just have to search it on the internet and you’d get hundreds of results about what internet marketing is. But if you really are wondering or if you want to know more about it, then you’re on the right track. Keep reading and I will see you through on what internet marketing really is and how it has evolved way back before it became a common term.
Internet marketing is more often than not associated with a much broader topic of promoting one’s business with the internet as the main tool. Which I believe is the common knowledge of most people if not all about internet marketing. But does it really stop there? Of course, it does not because internet marketing involves a whole bunch of factors like blogs, websites, social networks, paid advertisements and much more. Internet marketing can also lead us to another two entirely eminent form of internet marketing; the SEO (search engine optimization) and the SEM (search engine marketing).
But back to the topic at hand, internet marketing or also known as online marketing, from the name itself, is the process of marketing or promoting your business, brand, products, or services over the internet. So instead of using traditional marketing strategies like radio ads, flyers, newspaper print ads, etc., with internet marketing, you are now to apply the “virtual” type of marketing strategies. Depending on you, some strategies can be modified or even complemented with others that will result in a better way of doing your business on the internet. You don’t need to strictly follow all the rules of what should be done and what should not be. In fact, many people have been making some modifications in their marketing strategies that yielded to their success which in turn, gave way to the evolution of internet marketing. According to Wikipedia, internet marketing is the use of the internet as a technique to promote your business and sell your products and services. These techniques and strategies are integrated into a digital marketing plan. Such marketing plan can include web page advertisements, SEO, SEM, pay-per-click advertising, bulk mailing, SMM (social media marketing), and marketing of blogs and vlogs.
And now that we have laid the basic grounds of internet marketing, the time has come for us to revisit the humble beginnings of internet marketing before its stardom. Internet marketing company first become as such in the early 1990’s as simple web pages, and a far cry the fancy ones we know and see today. Since it was dated way back to the 1990’s, these web pages only contained text and product information. Not until the late 1990’s where the so-called “webmercials” appeared and spread like wildfire in the United States. The term “webmercial” was a combination of the words “web” and “commercial”, meaning online commercial. Or what we know of today as the internet or online marketing. The emergence of webmercial was the new way of advertising in order to effectively compete with the growing digital media.
