But back to the topic at hand, internet marketing or also known as online marketing, from the name itself, is the process of marketing or promoting your business, brand, products, or services over the internet. So instead of using traditional marketing strategies like radio ads, flyers, newspaper print ads, etc., with internet marketing, you are now to apply the “virtual” type of marketing strategies. Depending on you, some policies can be modified or even complemented with others that will result in a better way of doing your business on the internet. You don’t need to strictly follow all the rules of what should be done and what should not be. Many people have been making some modifications in their marketing strategies that yielded their success, which in turn, gave way to the evolution of internet marketing. According to Wikipedia, internet marketing is the use of the internet as a technique to promote your business and sell your products and services. These techniques and strategies are integrated into a digital marketing plan. Such a marketing plan can include web page advertisements, SEO, SEM, pay-per-click advertising, bulk mailing, SMM (social media marketing), and marketing of blogs and vlogs.
And now that we have laid the underlying grounds of internet marketing, the time has come for us to revisit the humble beginnings of internet marketing before its stardom. Internet marketing companies first become such in the early 1990s as simple web pages, and a far cry from the fancy ones we know and see today. Since it was dated way back to the 1990s, these web pages only contained text and product information. Not until the late 1990’s where the so-called “commercials” appeared and spread like wildfire in the United States. The term “commercial” was a combination of the words “web” and “commercial,” meaning online commercial. Or what we know of today as the internet or online marketing. The emergence of the business was the new way of advertising to compete with the growing digital media effectively.
