These directories will give you a good quality, “do follow” link back to your site. Most will allow a title description, main description, and your contact information. Some paid directory listings can bring a substantial amount of traffic to your site. For example, the Yahoo directory can bring decent traffic to your site and is priced at $299 per year. But there are also some directories that won’t cost you a dime – just time. A DMOZ listing (no longer in existence since this article was published) is free to get listed and will usually get you some clicks and visitors. Their review process can take a while since all submissions are manually reviewed. It sometimes takes as much as 4-6 months (or even longer) for a decision from an editor on whether or not they accept your website into their directory. Even though it may be a long wait time, it is well worth the wait (if you’re approved) as a backlink from an authority, human edited directory like DMOZ is invaluable. Submission to directories plays is an integral step in the search engine optimization process.
